emotions

joel builds a "road" of chocolate cake directly on the table. he declined to use the plate when daddy "suggests" it. before the polite request even has a chance to become a command, joel turns to daddy with a compassionate look and says:

"daddy are you angry, are you sad, are you happy, are you tired?"
my rather post-modern response was "yes"

liz and tom catch each other's eye, consider together the realisation that those 4 emotions wonderfully capture the moment. we then ponder further and recognise that this interchange defines much of parenting.

"are you angry, are you sad, are you happy, are you tired?"
"yes"
